Happenings in Freshman Advisory
We are beginning to talk about Technology Safety in freshman advisory.  With the increase in how much of our life technology becomes a part of, it is important for our students to understand how to use it in a responsible manner, so they don’t affect themselves, someone else, or jeopardize their futures.  The unit will culminate with Officer Baker, our police liaison, giving a presentation about some of the consequences of not using technology responsibly, both at BG and in a legal sense.

We also are wrapping up our college visits that all freshmen are going on.  Students who have not been on a trip yet will be going to either Loyola, Northwestern, or Benedictine.

Year in School Showcase (Junior Core Team)
Junior Year marks a turning point because for most students and families, it’s when college planning kicks into high gear. Counselors present to Juniors for two days during US History regarding the college planning process.  The goal of this process is to be as proactive and prepared as possible and to learn the four steps to college and career success: 1. Preparation 2. Research 3. Apply 4. Decide.  Juniors will bring home a blue folder filled with resources and a college comparison worksheet.  To view the Junior Core presentation, please visit:

College and Career Center Month in Review
The College Career Center has been busy processing Transcript Request Forms and meeting with college representatives visiting our school.  As of 10/ 22 we have processed nearly  900 Transcript Request Forms and have had over 90 colleges visit BGHS to meet with our students.

Senior Check-In a Success!
On Thursday, October 9th, the entire counseling staff had the opportunity to meet with the Class of 2015 out of their P.E. Classes in the theater.   During senior check-in we gave our seniors additional helpful information as they continue to complete applications and plan their life after high school.

Remember to allow 15 school days to process Transcript Request Forms.
The College Career Center will be closed from Dec. 20th  to January 4th.
